Gran Bahia Ambar - Dominican Republic - April 4 - 11, 2012
We surprised ourselves in November by an almost "spur of the moment" decision to join Danny and Claire Eddy for a week in the Dominican Republic over Easter. Danny is a colleague at the Nova Scotia Teachers Union with me and Claire is a Vice-Principal in Lunenburg County. We stayed at the Gand Bahia Ambar resort just outside Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The resort is delightful and puts an emphasis on "pampering".
The resort is located right at the wreck, the standard reference for this area.
We were absolutely amazed by the number of people on the beach. I'm sure this was in part because it was Easter and the weather was great!
The diving was not particularly good. The visibility was poor and there was not much in the way of reef. On Saturday April 7 Donna and I did take an excursion to Saona Island on the Caribbean side of the island for diving and snorkelling and that was definitely better, but still was no where near the diving around the other places we've been. However, I did get some pictures that I've posted  here for those interested. The dives were all reasonably shallow. I do like the picture of the scorpion fish:
